ASEAN COST – EU Commission policy dialogue meeting
Partners of SEA-EU-NET (Patrick Ziegler from DLR, Germany; Alexander Degelsegger from ZSI, Austria;, Chantal Khan-Malek and Caroline Schuster from CNRS, France) joined the EU delegation (Kostas Glinos and Pierrick Fillon-Ashida from DG RTD; Raffaelo Quarto from EU Delegation in Singapore; Cécile Leroy from EU Delegation in Indonesia) to introduce cooperation activities between ASEAN, EU and their member states. Representatives of Euraxess (Simon Grimley, Thailand and Susanne Rentzow-Vasu, Singapore) were also present.
ASEAN COST and the EU delegation stressed the importance of internationalization to address the STI challenges today and discussed framework conditions for cooperation, in particular IPR issues (open access) and mobility (fellowship funding). These questions could be addressed in link with APASTI (ASEAN plan of action for Science, Technology and Innovation) and be the object of one or several sessions during the ASEAN-EU STI Days.
SEA-EU-NET, CONNECT2SEA, SUSTAIN EU-ASEAN and Euraxess were then invited to present several of their concrete actions for cooperation support. In the case of SEA-EU-NET, the STI Days, funding scheme and innovation report (among others) were presented and well received.
In the framework of the 9th ASTW, SEA-EU-NET also held a booth providing to the event’s participants information on the project’s activities (a poster promoting the STI Days was exposed) and Horizon 2020. This was the opportunity to note that Horizon 2020 (and EU’s framework programs for STI in general) is hardly known in ASEAN countries, and that researchers and students are mainly interested in mobility opportunities.
