Biosecurity has become an issue of growing importance in the 21st century. Research for medical or other useful purposes can lead to insights or technologies that also can be misused for the development of biological weapons. This kind of research is labelled as dual use research. H5N1 (bird flu) virus was a typical example, which effected and effects ASEAN countries, Europe and the US in equal terms.
